In this course Odile will teach you how to make a ring using the ancient craft of wax carving. During this technique wax is cut, carved and shaped to create a piece of jewellery of your own design. On completion of the carving the wax is then sent to a caster to be cast into metal. The process of casting takes a couple of weeks and you will be able to collect your finished piece from the workshop or have it sent out to you. The cost of the casting is not included in the price of the course.
Using traditional jewellery making techniques, you will learn:
about some of the different waxes used in this technique
about the essential tools that are needed to make a ring
designing and measuring the ring for carving
about the techniques needed to shape the wax into your chosen ring shape, including cutting, filing and carving
Wax carving materials are included in the price, but there is a charge to have your piece cast. If you wish to have your piece cast in silver it's approx £20, but this would mean there would be some clean up involved. Odile can clean up and finish your cast piece and this would incur another charge, to be confirmed.
We have payment plan options available if you want to pay in installments. The full payment must be made before the workshop start date. Please let us know if you would like this option.
There's lots of tea and coffee throughout the day, with a cake or two. Please bring a packed lunch with you or there are a variety of shops nearby.
